Depression
Depression is characterized
as having low mood for a period of at least two weeks.
It is commanly experienced as feeling sad, hopeless,
or discouraged. The many of following symptoms may also
be experienced during the period of low mood:

Trouble falling asleep, staying asleep
or sleeping too much

Loss of interest or pleasure in normal
activities
-
Feeling tired or having little energy
-
Changes in appetite or weight
-
Feeling restless or irritable
-
Trouble concentrating, remembering,
or making decisions
-
Feelings of worthlessness or guilt
-
Thoughts of suicide or death
Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder is characterized
by extreme shifts in mood, energy, and behavior. Typically
there are Manic (UP) phases and/or Depressive (DOWN) phases. These
phases may last many days when many of the symptoms
can occur together. People going through these phases experience
many social, occupational and/or educational difficulties. Individuals
may experience only some of the following symptoms at any
given time.
In a manic phase, people may experience
a few of the following symptoms?
- Excessively good, giddy or unusually happy mood
- Racing thoughts
- Rapid speech
- High energy
- Decreased need for sleep
- Uncharacteristic unusual behavior such as gambling,
spending sprees, shoplifting, sexual activity
- Excessive distractibility
In a depressive phase, people
may you experience few of the following?

Sad mood,
-
Feelings of emptiness
-
Nervous or anxious mood
-
Feelings of hopelessness, guilt, or
worthlessness
-
Loss of interest or pleasure in things
once enjoyed
-
Changes in eating and sleeping habits
-
Thoughts of death or suicide
Sleep Disorder (INSOMNIA)
Insomnia can be defined
as difficulties falling asleep, staying asleep or maintaining
sleep. These experiences are also cause significant
distress or impairment in social, occupational, educational or
other important areas of functioning.
If you are also suffering
from any of the following?
-
Taking longer than 60 minutes to fall
asleep
-
Sleeping less than 6.5 hours
-
If you are 18 - 64 years old and
-
have experienced the above symptomsfor
at least three months,
-
are in reasonable good health and
-
are not a shift worker, you may
qualify to participate in an insomnia study.
If you or someone you know
has any of the above described symptoms they may qualify
to participate in a clinical trial.

who chose to participate in this research study will
